Leica Gallery Istanbul is pleased to host the solo exhibition ““5 Dried Flowers, 7 Confusing Incidents, and 9 Intimate Strangers” by Ali Taptık between 6 December  2018 and 16 February 2019.

With a title resembling a haiku, the selection of work from Ali Taptık’s photographic journal can be read as short stories. Including photographs made from his earliest body of work from 2002 until 2018, Taptık has made a remix of the journal that focuses on contemporary issues such as polarity, privacy and intimacy, and the interplay among urban culture, nature and human. Taptık emphasizes a relationship between verbal and photographic expression inviting the audience for a game that translates each gallery wall into a sentence and certain images into adjectives or conjunctions. Ali Taptık’s work speaks its mind on contemporary discussions within these jigsaw puzzles that free the images from their production date and time.

Taptık has gained wide recognition in local and international platforms through his alternative approach to photographic presentation and installations. He has been the recipient of 2016 Elliot Erwitt HC7 Fellowship, his works have been displayed in Istanbul Biennial and Venice Biennial for Architecture. He experimented with display boards, websites and photography books investigating the limits of the medium. Created specifically for Leica Gallery Istanbul “5 Dried Flowers, 7 Confusing Incidents, and 9 Intimate Strangers” will showcase some of these photographic studies and artist’s books.
